How many pellets will I need?

Pellet Delivery

Heat requirements of your home can be a little tricky to determine. The heat loss of your home is determined by construction materials, insulation, tightness of construction, number of floors, and ceiling height too name a few. A good rule of thumb is to compare past energy usage to pellets.

For example, if you went through 500 gallons of fuel oil last year, there are 118.28 gallons of fuel oil in heat value per ton of pellets. That means you would need about 4.2 tons of pellets. At a price of $325 delivered per ton and fuel oil at $4.30 per gallon, you would save $783 this year. This is just an example using fuel oil, but the calculations work for other sources of energy also.
